PrologueShe was so close.  Just a little bit longer, a few seconds, really, and she would be his.  Just a few steps, a push of a door, and she would be his.  Victory.

Her back was turned to him, and her hair was tied up in a bun, revealing her pale neck. The smell of it...Jasper had never smelt something so utterly tempting, so glorious. She didn't notice him approaching from behind. Not even a flinch.

He took a step forward, his foot deliberately pressing into the ground.  She winced, turned around.  Her eyes were wide, the ribbons on her pointe shoes undone as she stared at him, still seated on the floor.  He could taste her fear, and it made her
Night.I glow silver,
Bathed in the moon's soft light.
Peace washes over me,
The darkness a welcome respite
From the garish light of day.

I hear a few whispers
Uttered by the lovers next door,
And from the man across,
Several loud snores.
The strains of strings reach me,
A testament to the night's beauty.

Sleep eludes me,
But I care not.
A cool breeze washes over me
And suddenly
I find myself an enigma
A stranger even to my own self.

Maybe I am a woman
Cursed to be a swan.
Perhaps a girl unloved,
A victim of her own innocence.
Or even a goddess
Watching over her sheppard.

Or maybe I am nothing
No one at all.
Smart.They tell me
You are so smart.
They come to me
Because I am smart.
If I don't understand it
Then they don't try
Because I am smart.
When I do something wrong
They are so happy
Because I am smart.
When I worry
They tell me to stop
They say I don't have to
Because I am smart.
When I feel like
I did something wrong
They tell me to shut up
Because I am smart.
When I do something wrong
They laugh in my face
Because I am smart.
But I want to be more
I want to be human.
I don't want to be just smart.
I want to be me.
